Fed: Teenageer leads police on car chase

CANBERRA, April 18 AAP - An unlicensed teenage driver has led police on a car chase
that reached speeds of up 150km/h in Canberra.

The 15-year-old youth drove a vehicle with three other passengers through a police
traffic stop on Cotter Road in Canberra's south about 12.30am (AEST) today.

A short time later the vehicle was spotted by police travelling north on Coppins Crossing
Road where again the driver failed to stop as directed.

The vehicle continued along William Hovell Drive and into the northern suburb of Higgins
where it stopped and its four occupants fled.

The pursuit lasted approximately five minutes with speeds reaching up to 150km/h in
a posted 90km/h zone.

The driver was arrested a short time later.

He was then breath tested, allegedly recording a result of 0.042, more than twice the
.02 legal limit.

Police will allege the youth is an unlicensed driver and his vehicle was unregistered
at the time.

He will face ACT Children's Court on drink-driving and traffic offences at a date yet
to be fixed.
