Fed: Road toll rises to 14

The Christmas holiday road toll has risen to 14 after two people died in a car crashin Victoria late last night.

The pair -- believed to be a man and a woman -- died after the car they were travellingin collided with another car about 10.45pm (AEDT) near Lara, south-west of Melbourne.

The driver of the second vehicle has been hospitalised.

The deaths bring Australia's Christmas-New Year road toll to 14.

Queensland has had the highest number of holiday fatalities with seven deaths, NSWand Victoria have had three each and South Australia roads have claimed one life.

The other states and territories remain fatality-free four days into the holiday toll period.
