NSW: Mid-East peacekeeping force long way off:Howard
Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD says Australia is a long way from committing a peacekeepingforce to the Middle East.
Mr HOWARD told reporters at Sydney airport before his departure for London internationalpeace keeping forces need to be invited by relevant government.
Mr HOWARD says he doesn't think the question of an international peace keeping forcearises at the present time.
He was responding to comments from Foreign Minister ALEXANDER DOWNER that Australiahad told Arab ambassadors it was prepared to play an active role in peacekeeping in theMiddle East.
