TROY -- Edward F. McDonough's conviction on municipal corruption charges removes the last vestige of his influence in Rensselaer County, the chairmanship of the Hudson Valley Community College board of trustees.

Under the public officer's law, McDonough's conviction on a felony requires instantaneous removal from the board.

If an appeal ensues, and is successful, McDonough would remain off the board during the appeal process unless he is reappointed.
