WHAT BAGGAGE WOULD HILLARY BRING WITH HER?(MAIN)

Byline: DAN THOMASSON

WASHINGTON -- Those who would replace retiring Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan with Hillary Rodham Clinton are ignoring some political realities, not the least of which is her vulnerability to the kind of no-holds-barred campaigning that has marred New York senatorial campaigns of the past.

At first glance, Clinton would appear to offer a tremendous opportunity for Democrats to continue to control both of the state's Senate seats after the 2000 election. She is extremely intelligent and attractive and recently displayed her political savvy and charisma in campaigning for the party's congressional candidates in last November's elections.
